Can the 2016 Toyota Tacoma Standard Features Stand Up to the Ridgeline?

2017 Honda Ridgeline AWDAre the 2016 Toyota Tacoma standard features enough for the Mid-Missouri truck driver? If all you need is connectivity, a cab, and a bed, maybe, but the 2017 Honda Ridgeline gives drivers so much more in the way of utility on just its base trim. If you’re a truck lover who likes to go all out, Honda has seven trims to choose from, too—the Tacoma only comes in five trim levels.

Toyota Features Come Up Short

Drivers have certain expectations of a truck, and we have a hard time thinking that the 2016 Toyota Tacoma standard features will meet the average driver’s needs. It has no trouble going head-to-head with the Ridgeline on connectivity features, but when it comes to utility, Honda has some truck features that you won’t find on the Tacoma, including:

  • Lockable In-Bed Trunk: The 2017 Ridgeline features a lockable trunk in the bed of the truck, perfect for storing tools and other gear out of sight—its built-in drain lets it double as a cooler for tailgating.
  • Cargo Anchors: The bed of the Ridgeline features cargo anchors as standard, making it easy to secure your gear no matter the shape or size.
  • Two-Way Tailgate: While the Tacoma tailgate just folds down, the Ridgeline can either fold down to accommodate long cargo or open at the side so you can easily hop up into the bed.
  • Standard Crew Cab: Toyota requires an upgrade for their five-passenger cab, but it’s standard on the Ridgeline. Honda’s truck also features a rear seat that folds up and easily fits a flat-screen TV or a full-size bike on the floor of the second-row seating area.

As if that’s not enough, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma 4×2 Crew Cab lags behind on fuel economy as well, earning just 23 highway mpg to the 2017 Honda Ridgeline 2WD’s EPA-estimated 26 highway mpg.*
