There’s no denying that the 2018 Toyota Prius’ MPG leaves little to be desired, but in many other ways, it’s far from satisfying. Drivers who’ve been on the lookout for a more attractive hybrid now have one more exciting option: the 2019 Honda Insight! The freshly redesigned Honda Insight has just joined Honda’s wide array of hybrid cars, and as part of our lineup, it’s already catching the attention of Mid-Missouri’s drivers. Although the Honda Insight’s MPG isbasically equivalent to that of the Prius, this Honda offers a superior touring experience. According to Cars.com, the new Insight is “like a Prius, only prettier,” but its advantages are far from superficial.

Fuel Economy

Total System Horsepower

Electric Motor Torque

2018 Toyota Prius One

54 mpg city / 50 mpg highway

121 hp

120 lbs.-ft.

2019 Honda Insight LX

55 mpg city / 49 mpg highway*

151 hp

197 lbs.-ft.

Judging by fuel economy alone, the 2019 Honda Insight and the 2018 Toyota Prius certainly look like close competitors. However, the similarity disappears when you take the Insight for a spin. Unlike the Prius, the Insight offers generous amounts of horsepower and torque, and as a result, it’s much more fun to drive. Unlike many of its competitors, the Insight Hybrid even offers a push-button-activated Sport mode! Of course, powertrain performance isn’t the only thing that allows the Insight to stand out. With the Insight, “Honda has crafted a cabin that feels more upscale than anything in an Acura showroom save for the latest RDX,” and that’s according to Cars.com.
