Car & Driver: 2019 Honda CR-V vs. 2019 Toyota RAV4
Honda and Toyota have been the forerunners of the crossover SUV market with the ever-popular Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. Ideal vehicles for drivers who prioritize versatility, both the CR-V and RAV4 have provided drivers with a reliable capability that easily accommodates different lifestyles and driving situations. Car and Driver decided to put the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Limited AWD and the 2019 Honda CR-V Touring AWD head-to-head and found the RAV4 came up short again and again.
Getting out the tape measure will put the dimensions of the CR-V and RAV4 mostly head to head. But with firsthand experience in both cabins, the CR-V feels much more comfortable and spacious in the rear seat. Car and Driver notes that the seat in the CR-V features a wider bottom cushion, has more legroom, and provides more comfortable padding, keeping passengers comfortable even on long journeys.
Under the Hood
Though on paper the Toyota RAV4 has a larger engine, Car and Driver found the performance of the CR-V blew it out of the water with their acceleration test. The CR-V reached 60 mph in less time than the RAV4, giving drivers of the CR-V a real-world edge in trickier driving situations such as merging or passing on the highway.
Coming in at a lower MSRP while still offering all-wheel drive capability as well as comfort and technology amenities inside, the CR-V is Car and Driver’s pick as the better value, which says, “the Honda provides more space, better engine performance, and plenty of features, all for less money than the Toyota.”
