Compare the 2016 Toyota Corolla MPG to the 2016 Honda Civic

October 28th, 2015 by

2016-honda-civicThe 2016 Toyota Corolla mpg ratings might make it seem like a decent compact car, but if you’re shopping around for a truly versatile small sedan, we suggest you take a look at the 2016 Honda Civic. Coming soon to the new vehicle lineup at Mid-Missouri Honda Dealers, the new Civic has been completely redesigned and will feature two distinct, new engines. Let’s take a look at how they fare in comparison to the Corolla.

The Battle of the Small Cars

There are few small cars that go head-to-head as often as the Corolla and the Civic—throw the Focus in there and it’s a real battle royale—but with the updates to the 10th generation Civic, we think it’s possible to crown a victor in this small-car fight before the new Civic even hits the streets of Central Missouri. See how the engines compare:

  • The 2016 Corolla L’s 36 mpg on the highway and 27 mpg in the city from its automatic transmission and standard 1.8L 4-cylinder engine certainly aren’t bad, especially with 132 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque.
  • The 2016 Civic will have a base 2.0L 4-cylinder engine earning an EPA-estimated 41 highway and 31 city mpg with a CVT and kicking out 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque.*
  • But that’s not all. The Civic also has a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine available. The 2016 Civic EX-T features that 174-hp 4-cylinder with 162 lb-ft of torque paired to a CVT, yet it also bumps up the fuel economy to an EPA-estimated 42 highway and 31 city mpg.*

While the 2016 Toyota Corolla Eco mpg ratings come close to the Civic EX-T, it falls victim to many comparable “eco” models’ weakness: power. The Civic EX-T’s new turbocharged engine hits the sweet spot of power and efficiency, and it’s ready to take the world by storm.
